THIS I BELIEVE: If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem

I believe beliefs are ever evolving.

We live in a world that’s continuously revolving.

An ongoing, complex process,

Making it somewhat difficult to conceptually process.

Experience is the ultimate source of true knowledge.

Everyone is entitled to it, and it doesn’t require college.

A single decision I once made,

altered my life in a drastic way.

I took a risk, which led to another.

Experienced first-hand how interdependent we are to one another.

Money. Politics. Consumerism. Nationalism.

Contributing factors to my generation’s increasing nihilism.

Yet here’s the thing, my generation need not forget:

This system fuels that loitering fear of regret.

Change inherently occurs,

whether positive or negative, the decision is yours.

Now is the time to recognize our potential,

Can you feel it? We’re on the brink of something exceptional.

Let’s do a quick history review,

The history of human communication will provide context for a better view.

The written word allowed permanence.

The printing press, abundance.

As a result social structures crumbled,

Which made the world feel quite jumbled.

The telegraph increased the speed of information.

Radio and television became tools to unify a nation.

Now, digital technology presents us with an opportunity.

We no longer have excuses for the crimes committed against humanity.

Our world has evolved to this crucial point in space and time.

My hope is that I’m helping with this simple rhyme.

I believe humans are capable of making the world a better place.

Each person in their own way — all in time, it’s not a race.

It boils down to what one strives to achieve.

Ultimately, if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. This I believe.
